Easter Weekend in CO Kerry

Over Easter weekend we drove out to Killarney in County Kerry . We finally saw the "Ring of Kerry," which is a scenic road around the perimeter of the Kerry peninsula.

You'll see a castle-looking structure in these photos. Those are from the Rock of Cashel, in County Tipperary. It was a pretty impressive sort of 1000 year old base of operations for monks and bishops. Looks like just the spot to build a fort. A rather obvious sort of rocky hillock that looks like you'd have the dickens of a time were you to try to assault it.

How did I get that wrong?

Prior to his arrival, we researched the possibility of Ryan having Irish citizenship, and I recall gathering that he could not become an Irish citizen.

Then, somehow, the idea that he could be an Irish citizen insinuated itself into my world view. Well, he can't. The terms of my visa are not correct for that.

He's locked in for U.S., with a passport and record of foreign birth. We're angling for Japanese still -- must check the status of that. But he isn't going to be Irish.

What's so funny?

First bite

Last week Ryan had his first bite of rice cereal. As you can see he wore more than he swallowed. He likes to feel the food in his mouth with his fingers and smears it around his face.

Dun Laoghaire

Here is a photo of Ryan and his Mommy taken last weekend in front of a giant sea urchin also known as 'uni' in Japanese. You may have seen it on a sushi menu. It's an acquired taste.

(Yes, I'm getting my hair cut this Saturday. Give me a break, I'm new at this mom thing.)

About half an hour after this photo was taken we were in the Dun Laoghaire (pronounced 'dun leary') market when the winds started to pick up and it started to hail. We left shortly after that. And don't worry Ryan was completely covered up the whole time.

More photos

It's a cold sunny day at Herbert Park. Ryan's taking a nap.

Do you think he's teething already?
