Sky Road

After the night at the Kylemore pass (between Leenene and Letterfrack (really!)) we went for a drive along Sky Road.

As usual, photos don't do it justice. I can't think of anything I've seen on the California coast that's quite as nice.

Ballinasloe - Gateway to the West of Ireland

... was not a particularly nice place. At least the downtown area wasn't. But it is the home of the Ballinasloe Horse Show. Which wasn't happening when we were there, thank goodness.

This post is in reverse time order. We blew through Ballinasloe on the way to the Kylemore pass, documented below.

But we did take a picture.

Study that noble animal! Proud and alert, he looks like he'd fetch a fine price. Suitable for work, racing, or what have you. The statue is nice, too.

Actually, what I recall most about Ballinasloe was that I had a bit of an anxiety situation. It was the result of an idea our neighbor planted in my head: That "travellers" (see Brad Pitt in Snatch) steal dogs. They would obviously be slavering at the thought of having Whiskey.

I won't describe, here, the precautions I took to protect Whiskey. I don't want my methods published on a blog, what with governments nowadays giving free or subsidized internet access to any old body (travellers).

Connemara

Whiskey saw his first sheep, and boy was he excited. He wanted to get right up close to them.

When they ran away he really wanted to get close to them.

Riko took this shot from the car. The sheep were right along the road side.

This area is West of Galway, in an area called Connemara. Specifically it's near the Kylemore pass. A few lakes, green pastures, and big hills rising off the plain. This place is beautiful.

We visited an abbey built by some rich old English dude.

In the Hills above the abbey there's a nice Victorian garden.

Riko took some pictures of the lake in front of the abbey and I assembled them into a panorama.

Oh yes, and there were cute little boats.
